WLW…An All Black Look

Welcome to the first installment of WLW or What LYNN Wore. A series where I chat about the looks that I wore throughout the year. Though WLW will be a consistent series this isn’t a daily, weekly or even monthly series. What LYNN Wore will be easy-going, intentional, and an overall enjoyable experience.

An all black look is my weighted blanket, my safety net, and in likeness with many others my comfort zone. I feel confident. I feel at ease. I feel powerful. I feel polished. Honestly this is when I feel the most like myself. There are no colorful distractions, prints or patterns; just me and that is something I can appreciate.

I understand why people may find themselves uninterested in an all black look. It can feel overdone, boring or at times challenging. When creating or wearing an all black look I give myself three major rules to follow. These rules have been a life saver and allow me to create a more elevated look while using one tone. Guideline #1 is the most obvious in my opinion, my number one rule is to ACCESSORIZE. This is a wonderful way to make a look that everyone can pull off more unique to you. This is an easy way to instantly elevate your look. Try pairing your looks with statement earrings, layer a few necklaces…maybe even a cool a belt. Yes, an ABL is simple but who says simple can’t make a statement?

Guideline #2 mix textures. Mixing textures prevents your all black look from feeling one-dimensional. The look I am wearing in this post is a great example of how you can mix textures within the same color. I wore a sheer ribbed turtleneck and paired the turtleneck back to a black cargo maxi skirt and sleek knee high boots. Last but certainly not least…Guideline #3…play with your shapes/ silhouettes. Try a puff sleeve here or a fuller-legged pant there. Playing with silhouettes allows you to not only elevate your ABL but have fun while doing so as well!
